SHOULD I BE TAKING CREATINE? (QUESTION & ANSWER)

22 Sep

QUESTION:

Should I be taking Creatine?

ANSWER:

It depends on what you are training for; many people take Creatine without really understanding what its primary purpose is. When considering supplementing with Creatine you have to consider what type of energy system(s) you are going to be working in. Making this super simple we will cover the energy system that is affected by Creatine.

Stage 1 (ATP-PC): This is your first energy system and is anaerobic in nature; it fuels powerful explosive movements and can last approximately 3-15 seconds. The (PC) in the name stands for phosphocreatine… in layman’s terms that white powder you buy at the supplement store, it eventually turns into phosphocreatine and when your body has built up extras, it can help increase power output in that 3-15 second window.

Conclusion:

If you are going to be lifting really heavy things or running really fast then Creatine might be for you

Creatine is not for you if…

  • You are not sure what you are training for.
  • You are an endurance athlete
  • You are not working out at maximum intensity on regular basis
NOTE: If you are going to buy Creatine, save yourself a lot of money and just buy plain old Creatine-Monohydrate, its all going to turn into Phosphocreatine in the end, don’t let the clever names on the label fool you.
